Privacy Policy

PTE Pro ("we", "our", or "the App") is committed to protecting your privacy. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, and safeguard your information when you use our mobile application.

1. Information We Collect

Account Information: When you create an account, we collect your email address and display name. If you sign in with Apple or Google, we receive the profile information you authorize. Anonymous sign-in is also available; in that mode we collect only an internal user identifier.

Practice Data — Text: We store the text you submit for Writing, Reading, and Listening tasks (essays, summaries, fill-in-the-blank answers, multiple-choice selections, dictation), along with the scores and feedback we generate.

Practice Data — Audio: Speaking practice tasks (Read Aloud, Repeat Sentence, Describe Image, Re-tell Lecture, Answer Short Question, Respond to a Situation, Summarize Group Discussion) require microphone access. The audio you record is uploaded to Firebase Storage, sent to our speech-recognition and pronunciation-scoring providers (see "Third-Party Services" below), then automatically deleted from Firebase Storage after grading completes. We retain the resulting transcript and scores, not the original audio.

Profile Photo (optional): If you set an avatar, we request photo library access and store the selected image in Firebase Storage scoped to your account.

Subscription State: When you purchase a Pro subscription, we receive your subscription status from RevenueCat (e.g. active / expired) so we can unlock Pro features. We do not store payment-card data; payments are processed by Apple.

Usage and Advertising Data: We collect usage statistics such as session duration and feature usage to improve the App. When a Free user chooses to watch an optional rewarded advertisement, Google AdMob may process device information, IP address, approximate location, advertising interactions, and diagnostic data to deliver, secure, and measure that advertisement. We request non-personalized ads and do not use the iOS advertising identifier (IDFA).

2. How We Use Your Information

• To provide AI-powered grading and feedback across the 22 PTE question types covered by the App (Speaking, Writing, Reading, Listening)
• To transcribe and score your speaking responses (audio is processed by third-party providers — see Section 3)
• To save your practice history, error log, spaced-repetition reviews, and progress statistics
• To power optional features such as the AI Coach, Score Map, mock-exam reports, and the global leaderboard
• To manage your account and subscription
• To offer optional rewarded advertisements that grant an additional AI grading credit to Free users
• To improve our grading accuracy and App features

3. Third-Party Services

We use the following third-party services. Text and audio you submit may be transmitted to these providers solely to deliver the corresponding feature.

• Firebase (Google) — Authentication, Firestore database, Cloud Storage, Cloud Functions, hosting. Firebase Privacy Policy
• Anthropic (Claude API) — AI grading and feedback. Your submitted text (and, for speaking tasks, the transcript produced by our speech provider) is sent to Anthropic for evaluation. Anthropic Privacy Policy
• Deepgram (Nova-3) — Speech-to-text transcription. Free users' speaking-task audio is sent to Deepgram for transcription. For Pro users, Deepgram is used only as a fallback when the Microsoft Azure Speech service is unavailable. Deepgram Privacy Policy
• Microsoft Azure Speech (Microsoft Corporation) — Speech transcription, pronunciation and fluency scoring (Pro tier only). Pro users' speaking-task audio is sent to Microsoft Azure Speech for transcription and additional pronunciation/fluency analysis; Free users' audio is not sent to Microsoft. • Google AdMob — Optional rewarded advertisements. AdMob may process device, network, approximate location, advertising-interaction, and diagnostic information to serve and measure ads and prevent fraud. The App requests non-personalized ads. • Apple Sign-In / Google Sign-In — Authentication providers governed by their respective privacy policies.

4. Device Permissions

The App may request the following permissions on your device:

• Microphone — required to record your responses for Speaking practice tasks.
• Photo Library — only when you choose to set or change a profile picture.
• Face ID / biometrics — optional, used to speed up sign-in.
• Notifications — optional, used for practice reminders.

You can revoke any permission at any time in your device's Settings. Revoking microphone access will prevent Speaking tasks from working.

5. Data Storage and Security

Your data is stored securely on Google Cloud (Firebase) servers. We use industry-standard encryption for data in transit and at rest. Audio recordings are deleted from Firebase Storage after the speech provider has finished processing them; we retain the transcript and scores. Authentication credentials are stored locally using the device's secure storage (Keychain on iOS).

6. Data Retention

We retain your account and practice data for as long as your account is active. Speaking-task audio recordings are retained only briefly while grading is in progress and are deleted automatically afterwards. You can delete your account and all associated data at any time through the App's Settings page.

7. Your Rights

You have the right to:

• Access your personal data through the App
• Delete your account and all associated data
• Opt out of optional data collection
• Review or change advertising privacy choices from the App's Settings page where required

8. Children's Privacy

The App is not intended for children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13.

9. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify you of any material changes by posting the new policy within the App.
